The Construction Methods of the Stone Weirs: G. Stuffing - After finishing the repairs of the base bottom and the outer surface of the dike with large-sized stones, the repairmen will stuff the vacancy of the inner cabinet with small-sized basalt or coral stones. The construction method will be different depending on the location and circumstance. For the stone weirs located at the outer sea with strong current passing, the small-sized stones will be embedded in the inner cabinet vertically. On the other hand, for the stone weirs located at the inner sea with weak current passing, it’s unnecessary to build a stuffy tessellated cabinet. In this case, the repairmen will embed the small-sized stones in the cabinet as firmly as just enough to avoid shaking. As a result, the gap in between will make permeability and drainability to weaken the pressure of the strong current from falling, and also provide a space for marine creatures to live in. - Context compiled by isle.travel, 2017.
